Alefiya Shipchandler
I have been a high school teacher for 11 years and this is my 5th year at YVHS. I am from Nairobi, Kenya and I came to the United States to pursue my undergraduate degree at Loyola University of Chicago where I got my Bachelors of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I completed the Pre-Med program at Loyola, but my career path took a turn upon graduation when I was offered a position to teach high school chemistry. I have never looked back as I have come to realize that working with high schoolers & sharing with them my passion for learning & science is my calling. My teaching credentials are from Indiana-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Indiana where I also completed the rest of my coursework for chemistry. In addition to teaching I also have lab & research experience in analytical chemistry at a water pollution control plant in Indiana, biochemical research at Eli Lilly and Company in Indiana and developmental biology research at Loyola University Chicago.
In my free time, I enjoy traveling, hiking, playing tennis & pickleball and cooking. If you would like to reach me please send me an email at shipchandlera@mdusd.org or by phone at 925-685 8414 ex 2122
